I know I have mentioned this before, but Kenadie was positive she was going to get a baby sister, she NEVER budged from her thoughts. I talked up a baby brother just in case and she would always come back confidently with "but we're going to have a baby sister", as if she totally didn't hear all of my "baby brother" talk. Well, looks like she knew all along :) She's very excited, as are we! Now, just to come up with a name within the next 4 months...Kenadie went with Aaron and I to my appointment today! Can I just say that I am still in SHOCK over how WELL she handled it all!!! She's the child who starts crying in the parking lot of the Pediatric Clinic, cries worse when her name is called to go back, actually will sit in my lap at doctor visits (this doesn't EVER happen ANYWHERE else), gets nervous if you attempt to paint her toe nails, doesn't dare like for you to put a band aid on her even if it DOES have her favorite princess on it, gets nervous/upset if someone else has a bo bo... So, in a nutshell, the child who "doesn't meet a stranger" TOTALLY has her guard UP if she is in the least bit of an uncomfortable situation, unless it's something socially, then she is fine.
So, moving along... she went with us today because all grandparents were working, NOT because I thought this was something she, at 2, needed to experience! After I saw how well she did, I would have hated for her to have missed it. All week long I had been talking up the appointment. You MUST prepare this child for ANYTHING new! Enough said! You certainly don't spring anything on her! On our way today, I was especially talking it up, explaining that we wouldn't actually see our baby or hold our baby, but we would see pictures on a TV of our baby. I told her our baby wouldn't look exactly like a baby, that he/she wouldn't have on any clothes and that the pictures would be in black and white, not color. I know, you're thinking I'm giving her a lot of information, but trust me, she NEEDS details :) After those few bits of information she paused and said "hmmm... that's strange." Yeah, we thought that was way too funny and fitting! Then when I was trying to explain the way we would see the pictures of our baby, I told her that the nice lady (ultra sound tech) would put a little circle on my tummy and take pictures of our baby, sort of like a camera. To that she made a distressed face and said "Oh Mommy, I'm going to cry for you." Ha!
Kenadie did great at the appointment--already filling her role as a big sister :) My concern was that she was going to get nervous and then begin to cry uncontrollably, but that wasn't happening today! She enjoyed the appointment and thought our baby was cute :) I'm so glad she got to be apart of this with Aaron and I. We are thankful that at this point, everything looked the way it should with Baby Girl Zumwalt :) Thank you Lord, for fun days like today.
So happy for yall, I know Kenadie will love having a little sis!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful you took her. Jackson has gone with us to every appointment and loves to look at the pictures and tell everyone in the waiting room about the babies. Congrats, again :)
